Being Indecisive

In the process of writing the exploratory essay it was a lot of thinking especially picking out Freudian concepts because there were many. I couldn’t put my words together and even worse putting them down on paper. I went over three or maybe four drafts until I had my last final piece.

The exploratory essay was to write about a short story of your choosing and to analyze how Freudian concepts contributed to our thesis. My thesis was about how alcohol was a major impact causing the change of character of the narrator and seeing repression and displacement. I was put to pick a story and I’m very indecisive. I chose, “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allen Poe, and the Tory was very alarming, I didn’t expect the ending and how crazy repressed memories can take you. I wasn’t at all confident with my essay because I read it over and over and still made no sense. I wasn’t understanding my own essay, which was obviously very bad.

My difficulty was grabbing the attention of the reader and try to not summarize. But also make sure I’m specific with the way I’m setting my paragraphs, to make sure someone who didn’t read the story would still understand what I’m talking about. Another obstacle was to not prove that there was Freudian concepts in the story, but to use these concepts to help me prove my thesis.

Overall, I finally was able to be simple and make sure I explained what I was trying to say. Especially because when I talk, I always jump from one topic to another. As I said before it was very difficult. I got the job done, at the end I felt good about my essay because I took time into it and was hoping to see good results from it.
